New York at Christmas: A Seasonal Walking Tour

We’re not sure we’ve ever mentioned it here, but in addition to various other irons we have in the fire, we are also a licensed NYC tour guide. And this is our favorite time of year, because ’tis the season for our “New York at Christmas” Tour, a 90-minute walk during which we visit the sites and share the stories that have made New York the Christmas Capitol of America!

If you live in NYC or plan to be here during the holiday season (or if you know someone who does), this informative and entertaining holiday stroll just might be right up your alley.

We won’t bend your ear at length about it here, but if you’d like more info, just pay a visit to Avenues and Alleys.

Happy Thanksgiving, 1939-style!

This 1939 home movie footage of the 1939 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has everything short of a soundtrack. It features Pinocchio, Donald Duck, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, Old King Cole, Uncle Sam and much more.

Here’s wishing all Cladrite Radio readers and listeners a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving; we’re thankful for each and every one of you.

Happy Thanksgiving, 1935-style!

We’ve shared this footage with you before, but we’re convinced it’s worth revisiting: It’s newsreel coverage of the 1935 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and some footage of FDR carving the turkey for a group of very happy children.

Here’s wishing all Cladrite Radio readers and listeners a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving; we’re thankful for each and every one of you.

Parading Through Thanksgivings Past

As we type this, we’re watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV. It’s funny, but though we reside no more than a fifteen-minute walk from Macy’s, where the parade ends (and where all the lip-synced performances we see on television occur), we’ve never made it over to watch the parade in person.

Call us sticks in the mud.

Anyway, as we watched, we got to thinking about the history of the parade, and we wondered if there was any available footage of the event from back in the day.

Turns out, there is, indeed, so we’re sharing it with you below. Enjoy time-traveling to the 1930s to see the parade as it once was.

Happy Thanksgiving to Cladrite Radio readers and listeners everywhere. We’re thankful for each and every one of you.
